Elmore James (27.01.1918 - 24.05.1963), the King of the Slide Guitar. Actual name Elmore Brooks, an illegitimate son of 15-year-old Leola Brooks. He was influenced by Robert Johnson, Kokomo Arnold and Tampa Red, and Elmore has in turn influenced many guitarists.
From 1951 he has recorded for the labels Trumpet, Ace, Jewel, Meteor, Checker, Flair, Modern, Chief, Vee-Jay, Fire, Chess and Kent - see his discography.
He died of a heart attack in Chicago in 1963 at the age of 45.
