Elgin,Huntly area

I will be heading for these area shortly and wanted to know if anyone has done MD around Elgin. Is there anywater hunting anyone knows of also?

Are you looking to do some detecting around water in Elgin? There isn't a shoreline on the Fox River worth detecting that I know of.

Which water machine do you have? I use a CZ-20 and hunt the river and the many feeder creeks as soon as the water gets low enough to wade. Every year "new" old stuff washes out in the river and the creeks. Found everything from coins and bottles to coffins and cars. But mostly fishing sinkers.

Straight off the bow in that pic is the I-90 bridge. Just a sidenote, under the bridge is an island. On the island there was a large wooden roller coaster from about 1910 to about 1919 when the riverside park there had many amusement rides and games of chance. Under and just north of the bridge was where folks would rent a canoe or rowboat and picnic in the water. Prior to that era it was the spot of large outdoor gatherings, where folks from the city would come by the hundreds for a weekender by the river in the summer time and locals would have skating parties in the winter.

Upstream is the site of the countrfeiters who were discovered by a Dundee barrel maker named Pinkerton. He got some locals including the constable and blew the place up with black powder, then went on to create the agency named after him and Abe Lincoln's special security force, later known as the Secret Service. Didn't work out too well for Lincoln, eh?

Most of this shoreline is now Kane County FP and off limits to detecting. But you can find an occasional barrel hoop in the water, or so we hear from time to time...

Hi, I use an Excal II for water hunting but when I want to hunt the wet sand I get out the GT. Years ago I did a lot of field detecting with a Fisher 1266. I think my wife paid around $400.00 for it then and I sold it 8 years later for $300.00.Thats were it all started. I do most of my hunting around the Myrtle Beach area. I found its a lot easier diggin in sand unless the big waves start knockin you around. I'm retired and no matter what my wife says about the sharks eatin me I'm water huntin.

Hey Sandscoop, no sharks in the rivers/creeks hereabouts. Just little critters that steer clear of you as long as they know you're there. Had the occasional carp and bass attack on the canoe, but I just let 'em knock themselves out.

Got my own version of a Nantucket Sleighride, sit in the middle of the canoe and hook up with a 30+ lb flathead and let 'em tow me around for awhile.

Hey Bomber, there any water monsters in Busse Lake? Back in the 70's I hung out there occasionally, and under certain circumstance could swear I saw some unnatural things. Could have been a chemical imbalance though...

Last time I hunted the woods out there had to be 15 years ago. Any goodies popped out of there lately?

haven't really hit it that much,don't know why,if i do a quick hunt its normally a park near the house.......don't feel bad i still get "imbalanced"
