Eleven Jones Cave is a Crawlway Conduit Cave in Louisville,Ky.

An article in the Courier Journal on December 7, 1913 (section 4, page 12) titled Tempting Treasure Seekers by Robert Barry highlights many of the old legends surrounding this forgotten cave.

The oldest legends originated in the mid-1800s with the story of the Jones Brothers who used the cave to conduct their illegal businesses including counterfeiting, storing loot from their robberies and even murder.
It is claimed that they fashioned several rooms deep in the cave to live in and supposedly an iron gate or heavy iron door was placed to prevent anyone from finding their treasures. Of course, no one has found any of those things yet.

Another legend, tells of a dog that descended into the cave during the 1912 hunting season and never emerged.

There are also many other folktales that elude to eerie, unusual happenings associated with the cave.

The article states that the original entrance was about 300 yards upstream, though had collapsed by 1913.
It was once believed that there were at least 8 different entrances.

I will add that I have been deep into this narrow cave, I have recoved several old relics and coins from this area but nothing connecting to the Eleven Jones time frame of using this cave. I also have been told of a sabre that was once found in the spring that runs through, but that cannot be confirmed.
I have actually found a iron gate in this cave that they say hasn't been seen, but it is there but almost completely submerged. I found writing in this cave from the actual person that wrote the Newspaper article back in 1913. He tells in another write up that it was as far as he could go, well with alot of squirming and newer technology i passed his turnaround area and that is where i discovered the Iron gate. I had to make that my ending point, due to deep water and a Cemetary above ground that had been sinking into the cavern for many years and making it hazardous.

I also know of other caves in this area that i believe may have been linked to this but unable to enter due to reasons beyond my control. I will say this, The area that I thought was the main entrance to this Eleven Jones Cave is being used by the Goverment for different reasons and recently I obtained permission with Many strict Rules and regulations to tour a small part of this Cavern with a escort.

So I say that this Eleven Jones Hideout could have been very possible and there still may be things in the small rooms just waiting to be discovered some day or possible already have but put away and never to be seen by the public.

that is very interesting. we never know how many treasures the government has found and recovered and noone knows

This is so cool. Isnt it amazing what the govmt touches that no one hears about. I know that in Fort Detroit (michigan) after Mayor Colman Youngs regeim many of the civil war artifacts came up missing. When I was helping to do a movie shoot for the Antietam (Sharpsburg) battlefield I had the chance to work at the Prye House and you should have seen the cannon related items that were just gathering dust, cassions, wheels, etc.
