I see many iron artifacts bearing scars where someone had ground into the artifact to remove enough rust scale to get a good contact point for doing an electrolysis.

You would be amazed at how quickly white vinegar will remove a lot of the rust scale. Why not soak it in white vinegar initially to remove some of the rust scale then finish it off with electrolysis?

No more grind marcs on the relic.

I have mentioned this to other people who have ground rust off to get a good contact. I tell them to wiggle and jiggle the alligater clamp to get good contact. I do this on all my rusty iron and it works very well.

A 24 hour soak in white vinegar then a quick wire brushing and you would be amazed at the number of bare metal spots.
