Y mother recently brought a bunch of items from my 92 yr old grandpas garage. Just wandering if anyone has any idea what this is ? I'm leaning towards some kind of a crank up electricity thingamagigger ?

A magneto - turn the crank and have someone else put their fingers on the terminals.

They didn't really explain what it was did they. I think that's cause they've taken one fishing.
In case you don't know it's from an old crank telephone probably 30's or 40's
It generates high voltage, enough to travel down a LOT of wire and still power a mechanical ringer.
I haven't seen one since the '60's

turn the crank and hang on ...let us know lol !! Gary

Hi Gary ! I remember something about this but I can't remember what it is for. As Gary said, crank it fast and see what it does.

Hook wires to the terminals.....Connect the other end of the wires to a chain. Drop chain in pond or river....turn crank.......FISH DINNER!!!! Very illegal in most places.

Yup, quieter than using powder, and very illegal in these parts.

Our 8th grade science teacher had one of those magneto cranks from an old telephone. Somehow, it was de-tuned as to not create the normal current.

To teach us conductivity, he had us all hold hands, about 25 students, with one student touching the mag, and we could all feel the current from that.

I bet a science teacher wouldn't dream of doing that today.
