I was given a Forney electric stick welder (It's about 30 years old ), working condition. I have been asking around trying to sell it for $200.00. No buyer yet. Should I lower my price to $100.00? I wonder how much it might bring at a scrap yard. I would think there would be a lot of copper inside of it. You people in here seem to have a lot of knowledge on scrap metals. Just looking for some advice.
Thank you all.

I have never taken a welder apart, but with the prices being down right now I would lower the price. You wouldnt get much more than $5-$8 at the scrapyard. Try selling it on craigslist or kijiji

Hoff,
thanks for the reply. I'll try to sell it this week, maybe drop price to $50.00.
I will first look up the cost of a new one to have something to go by.

it may feel like it weighs a lot, but, most of that is in the building of the cores, the windings don't really take up that much weight

I found another way to find the value of an item is to go to eBay. Log in to your account and do a search for the item you want to establish a price on. Then go to "Advanced Search" , check "completed listings" and hit "search". The resulting search will give you the latest completed listings of the item you want to determine a price on, prices people really did pay for it. I feel this is an accurate way to determine the value of used stuff you want to sell or buy. Best to all, Mike

If you post it on Craigs list or one of those other sites. Unless you need the cash real bad real quick, let it ride at your original price. I've had some things not move, absolutely no interest then out of the blue some guy calls up and just gots ta have it. Kinda weird, stuff you think will sell fast doesn't do anything yet stuff you almost want to give away gets you calls off the wall. Go figure!?!?!
