Eldorado at the River.

Took the Eldorado to the river where we sluice yesterday to try it out. I have heard of Hot Rocks before but had never encountered one and didn't even know we had them here. Boy was i wrong. We have Lots of them. So how do i adjust for them? I am finally getting the ground balancing figured out at least. Do i just ground balance it over a Hot Rock or what do i do? Or can you get the detector to ignore them? Is there any Gold detector that doesn't have a problem with them? Thanks for any Info, Tips, and Advice.

Welcome to the club. All detectors pickup hot rocks, my GMT does so did my 6000D coinmaster. You will need to read your manual for hot rock adjustments and hope for other Tneters to awaken in the morning to answer your post.

:headbang: Now the work begins--you must know "EXACTLY" where your NULL zone is on the unit--up from it your lookn' for non ferrous objects--below your lookn' for iron objects. It's where the detector goes completely silent when slowly pumping the unit from 1"--to 6" off the ground. FIRST though your air adjustment for electrical interference must be performed to bring the unit down to a tiny TINY sound. Never GB to a hot rock as your telling the unit it's the normal ground situation and you will miss at least 90% of the gold--educate and prosper :read2: John

I am finally learning the ground balance and you throw out Null Zone. ;D Anyway,i have a question for ya about the threshold. If i set lit a bit louder during the ground balance so i can hear the difference, and then lower the volume after i get it set is that ok or does that mess up the ground balance? I guess i better bring a few of them Hot Rocks home to experiment with. I do know the Eldorado will find gold. just think i am going to need one with more KHZ and more gain to find the smaller sizes i am interested in not missing.
 

:icon_thumleft: Just like women you must learn to love the one your with,there is ALWAYS something better around the next corner but they got warts too. Good unit to learn with and after your first oz a finds then,if ya still want to nuggetshoot,make your hobby pay back to you your investment and then procede. A witness piece is the best tool you'll ever get, a simple 1 gram nugget glued to a poker chip to learn your unit with,check your gb and batteries in the field also. Your TR unit will GB in both the ferrous or non ferrous mode so ya better learn your null and the nugget will tell ya that--also a silver dime or a real old copper pennie-John

Not sure what you mean by it will balance in both the ferrous and non ferrous mode. Do you mean in All Metal and Disc.? And could you explain the Null? Is that when i go over something and the threshold gets lower? Thanks for the info. Good hunting.

Ok. I just took a silver dime, wheat penny, buffalo nickle, and a .33 gram piece of gold and taped each of them to a piece of cardboard with a piece of Scotch tape. Also took a nail and a pull tab to place next to them. In All metal with the GB set at what i think is right, it will pick up all of them to 7"-8" except the gold. But it still starts getting it at about 6". This is above ground and i did check the ground first to be sure there was no metal in it. Now if i put the nail next to the dime i won't get a signal go across them length was to the nail but i will if i go across the nail. If that made sense. The pull tab is harder. In disc. i can get rid of the pull tab but i also get rid of the nickle and the gold. But at least there is hope. I figure if the Eldorado will pick up that small a piece then it should be ok for now until i get more experience nugget hunting. Thanks to all for the help.

don't disc. out the pulltabs , they read as a nickle - or gold ........ if you disc. them out ,you disc. out the gold as well . dig em all , esp. iffy signals . everything is not always textbook . some will read in the foil range . no matter what learn your detector - bottom line .experience will win every time . good luck .
 

I was just experimenting today. I always run it at 0 disc. Sometimes i will turn the disc up on an iffy signal to see if it goes away or not. But normally i just dig everything. Took it to the park to put some time on it and get better aquainted with it. Came home with a few coins, including 1 nickle, and a double handful for bottle caps and pull tabs.
 

YAHOOOO now your gettn' serious and REALLY learn' that thang a mite better. 0-2 disc just gets rid of the lesser iron junk and the double direction swing on a tr disc unit ,for some reason,seems to be hard for most folks to comprehend but ya got it. Now the TONE and STATIC after you pass,some call it a stutter,will also help ID. Every pattern,quality of sound and repeated pulse tells ya something. Detectors talk to those who are serious enough to take the time to learn. Your doing great-John

:read2: Been detecting over 49 years and still learning--thats the charm--always something new coming out technology wise to make the fantastic detectors of today even better(Whites TDI-Fisher new GB???) and some of the older units still very viable,El D a good example-John :icon_sunny:
 

Hello Rebel; I had an Eldorado for a couple of years. I have never had a machine that would go as deep with the stock coil. I could pick up a one inch alum. roof nail at 10"... When your ground balancing just get it set so when your bobbing the coil up and down that it makes a little sound when the coil is going toward the ground. That's just a little positive GB. This is a better setting than neutral. (no sound going up or down). for finding gold. As far as the KHZ go the higher the freq. the more sensitive the machine is to smaller pieces of gold. Any detector will sound off on gold but the gold has to be bigger for lower freq. detectors. Hope this helps.
