I searched a house location on Rattlesnake Bar road in El Dorado county. Supposedly it is at or near the site of old Centerville which was settled in 1849. The front of the lot has a long hand placed rock wall 3-4' high that is supposed to have been built by Chinese laborers. The ground is full of ferrous metal with many round and square nails. Using a Garrett AT Gold and attempting to discriminate out the junk I found a bunch of stuff with a few unknowns. All of the pieces shown are non-ferrous. I think the round silver piece is the back of a pocket watch. It showed no corrosion so perhaps sterling silver. It has no markings on it. Near the watch back I found two odd lumps of melted metal about 6" down in charcoal. They seem too heavy to be aluminum. I'm going to try to determine their density as soon as I can access an accurate scale and volumetric cylinder. The brass(?) snaps are labeled 408 W.K. BEE HK. I don't think they are old. One melted aluminum blob, one brass tent grommet, some sort of round lead ring with serrations inside. It is an interesting site and great practice searching trashy ferrous metal ground.
