i've been doing this quite awhile--------and have met some wonderful people,most of the people that do this (the ones i have met while panning /dredging)are very down to earth and very friendly.but gold does change a lot of people.i was talking to a good friend(chris in w georgia) that i met thru t-net.we were taking a break while dredging and got talking about how gold affects people.he said something that i thought was very profound and he hit the nail on the head.he said that gold tends to accentuate certain trates in people.it has a way of bringing out the very BEST or the very WORST in most people be it in greed ,hate ,generosity, honesty or helpfullness.and the more i thought about it the more sense it made.i have and saw others work hard for a few flakes or small nuggetts (witch was not worth the effort) and then turn around a give it to a small child (who will probably lose it later)or a stanger who showed intrest in prospecting .hoping to turn some on to our wonderfull hobby.and a lot of you (the people reading this post)were turned on to prospecting by someone who showed you and ask nothing in return.so the way i see it ---it brings out the best in a lot of people ---the worst in some.and if you think it had no effect on you ,you need to look a little deeper-because it had a effect on you some where down the line ,if you didn't notice ---------i'll bet some of the people you know and love did!!!!!and i sincerely hope it brought out the best .

Now , I've been playing a bit about BIG-GOLD and my buddy's 3.1 oz. Nug here the last few days ,..and there is a lot of truth in it ,... and a weeeee bit of ,...well ... too !! The truth be told I've seen a few go a bit to far a time or two ,if all point's are considered . Anyway , hope to get back to this tonight /tomarrow , have alot to do before monday .

here a little while back takoda had a post that he had pics of some nice little chunky gold(small nuggetts)that he was going to give away to a newbie,for practicing with.have you seen what that man goes thru to get his gold?he does it the hard way-a long hike ,breaks rock-hauls it back out-loads it -hauls it to ala.-breaks it again-crushes it -ball mill-pans it .it is a lot harder than what most of us do.but he does get some good rewards for his effort.my point being thata a lot of times it might not be worth the effort-------------but he gave some away to a stranger that didn't know how to pan ----but he helped a stranger-gave us wonderful pics-told a good story-explained his method-i don't know about you but he entertained me-and gave someone a great hobby-who in return will show others as well.and ask nothing in return!!!!!!!!!! idon't know about you but where i come from THAT'S GOOD PEOPLE.and evedendtly can't be to greedy.so i tip my hat to t .thats what i'm talking about!later as this thread progresses------i will show the bad.

Well , last weekend I really meant to get back here , ran short of time ,and I’ve been working in a “remote” location this week ,.. But I’m back now !!
I think this topic “Effects of Gold” is Brilliant !! Many new to Prospecting , may find some of this hard to believe , but if you’ve been around for “quite awhile” , you for sure have seen some Odd effects after a bit of Au is found . Now , Strickman ,I believe is looking for some of the “Good” effects ...... Now that’s a tough one ?? Now , I’ve meet many fine people while prospecting , some very helpful and all , and made for good company . But , sad to say as soon as I read this topic “Effects of Gold”... , My mind , immediately went to the “BAD” I’ve seen , it just seem’s to over shadow the “GOOD” ?
Now , I’m surrounded by some good friend’s while prospecting , are friendship forged by many day’s / year’s of just “Looking” for that Au ,... and tempered with a few moment’s of finding it !! Now , My friend’s and I haven’t been tested by all that much Au ,so when one of them found a 3.1 oz nugget , we found it odd how he acted upon some unreasonable idea’s . Now , we just let this “fever” run it’s course ,... and in the end , he even has a good laugh at it now !!
This wasn’t a “BAD” effect of gold ,..... more like a demonstration how Au can cloud “common-sense” .!!
But ,. I do , as many here I’m sure , have story’s of showing a “friend” a new nugget patch , only to hear latter how they “cleaned-out” that patch the following weekend , only leaving the area a real mess , that you feel obligated to reclamate .!!
Yep , .. Seen the effects of gold on some ,.. But the “bad” seem’s to standout ??

blind pig,true iv'e seen it -it can be ugly.but i try to choose the ones who have (been exposed to it and still keep there feet on the ground so to speak)so far i know a few that haven't been polluted.when i go with my dredging buddy.we both try to help each other honestly.so far greed hasn't reared it's ugly head.even when i had a really good day -found several dwts. with a pan and shovel in a very short time(11/2 hrs)when we wen't back he still didn't wan't to get in my hole .finally i convinced him to .some times i do better somtimes he does .but if one finds it we help the other.then we all win a little.we try some of my spots and we try some of his.so far we always find some and seems to work out.there are still some good people out there.and it's easier to sleep at night when you do the right thing.carma has a way of working out.a lot of people have found out the hard way.have you ever seen some one see or hold a ounce or so and you can see "THE CHANGE"?you usually can tell pretty fast.some are never the same.some are .some are greedy some aren't.but if they are dishonest it will surely bring it out.and if they are honest it will bring that out too.if every one was the later we would all be better off.

Hay , Do ya'll see a "line" running through the last bit of my post above this one ?? I just tryed to "modify it , and the "line" isn't there ,where you write the messages . The screan hop's around when you try to type as well ?? this has happened to me once before , about 2 weeks ago ?? Is there a "limit" if your not a charter member or something

i am teaching my nephew to pan, dredge, etc and the first gold he found made him act like he was a total moron unil i gave it away to some old man that was camping nearby.

i just told him that there is plenty for everyone and finding it is the best part of the game and he pulled his head out of his butt pretty quick, now when we sample a stream he does the same thing i do on the first sample(i dump it back in the stream)

it sounds like a stupid thing to do but it keeps me on the right path after all self respect is the only thing that cant be taken from you (you can only take it from yourself).

takoda is good people and i hope he hits it big soon(i will do everything i can to help it happen, keep your fingers crossed bud)

I think many of the BADS are a form of being selfish and self-centered.

I also believe the issue is money in general and a little bit can bring out the good or the bad in men (and women).

Short story, I got a $1000 cash bonus for Christmas this year. My first instinct was to give some away, but when I got home all I could think about was what I was going to buy for me. I had to do a gut check because I was feeling VERY selfish. Well I mad a $100 donation at church and bought a few gifts, now I'm down to $500. I will make a trip to the food bank tomorrow.

I find that God is my first line of defence and even then I still get in my own way. When I'm feeling crazy (not just money) I have a couple good friends who I talk things over with and they either tell me I am OK or I should check myself.

After the food bank the rest will be mine and go to treasure hunting. I did get 2 common date Morgans for myself.

My point here is the money was a gift and what better way to use it this time than to do good things with it. So I only keep 2 or 3 hundred for me, it's still money I did not have before.

I do not mean to be pumping myself up, but to suggest that giving can straighten a man out in a hurry and help one to keep a positive perspective. I find this seems to work whether you are a religious type or not.

The only gold effect I've seen is it brings out the REAL YOU. No hiding greed or averice and conversely there is no hiding your compassion and care for your fellow man. It's only a avenue to a end and albeit a righteous path of adreneline, exploration and revelation. I'm lucky I guess, for I have not seen much bad from the people that I have come across in prospecting, I know that they're out there, but I'm lucky in not coming across them to often.

From what I've seen most people that I know that are into prospecting are hard working people, and most hard working people are usually down to earth and honest and will give you the shirt off their backs if they think you really need it.

The people that get into prospecting that aren't hard working individuals give up very fast once they realized how much work is involved to find just a little gold, which is a good because it weeds out most of the "bad/lazy" people.

ROFL One day I took a fellow from work out on the hill.

We Sluice for about 4 hours finding just some flakes and a bit of flower gold.

Then, this about a gram nugget shows up in the sluice.

He Freaked out. He kept going ON and ON and ON about how are we going to share the thing for the next hour.

My truck got us there.

It was my hole I took him to.

All equipment was mine.

It was my gas in the truck.

It was my food he ate at lunch.

I just put it in a vile and put it in his shirt pocket and said , There Shared.

Never took him back out.

Gold can definitly test a persons character. If I go out sluicing with someone, I prefer they have they're own equipment or we take turns shoveling and cleaning up individually.

Years ago I found that I let my buddies run the drywasher while I run the metal detector then after two tanks of gas we switch. What they get is there's it stops the bitching. They seem to forget the claims belongs to me and I pay the fee's and do the maintenance.
