Reading Joe Hunter's "clue" thread has inspired me to ask for advice on a site I found about a month ago..... Here's the story: searching a home built in 1900. It is acrossed the street from where the town's High School built early 1900's The kids used to sit on the back corner wall to hang oit and smoke. That is why I originally searched there. My 250 just went wild with jumpy siginals. Found a few clad quarters but not much else.

At the N/W corner of the properts again close to the wall I got a repeating siginal. Dug to find a nearly perfect retangular 5X7" piece of concrete? About 1/2" thick sitting perfectly flat about 3" deep. Under this was 2 canning jar lids placed one on top of the other . I didn't get much in the line of signals after removing the jar lids however they do explain the jumpy signals.

Finally to my question; do you think this is a good layout for hiding the family fortune? This spot can be seen from an upstairs window which I presume would have been a bedroom.

My main concern is digging such a deep hole for inspection since the lack of signals after removing the jar lids. I'm thinking if anything is there it is just too deep for my machine to pick up the signal. I have since got my AT Pro and planned to go back to hunt the property anyway. So do you think I should talk to the home owner since the hole will be substantial? Of course when I do that, up comes the question of her getting part of the " treasure"

Sorry to be so long winded...just wanted to give as clear a description as possible. Thanks for reading and I look forward to your thoughts.....

I think if it was anything substantial, your machine would pick it up. Maybe the concrete was set there to mark the property boundaries and the rings just trash. If I were the property owner I wouldn't want anyone digging a big hole with such little likelihood there was anything underneath.

I believe the chances of the canning jar lids stacked perfectly one on top,of the other are slim as well as them lying flat under the small piece of concrete. Of course I am the optimist.

However; Thanks for your reply.

Yeah, those greedy buggers always think they're entitled to a share of the loot! :D
