Edelweiss mountain trooper badge WW2

Dug off German WW2 mountain-trooper Edelweiss badge.:)
Nice find. The edelweiss was an important symbol to Germanic folks. One tough little plant. It’s difficult to picture nazi soldiers wearing flowers, but they certainly did. Seems quite the polar opposite. Thanks for posting.

A find filled with history:
"It might surprise you to know that this badge is also worn by American soldiers who have gone through alpine training with their Bundeswehr counterparts."

"Regardless, the edelweiss flower, for the German troops, is a sign of their bravery and mark of being a true soldier."
Don in SoCal.

Yes, it is quite emblematic and certainly an honor.

Nice find

that appears to be a broach of some sort instead of a military cap device. German military issue did not have a jewelry type stone mounted in the center

Agreed. Also the WWII badges were 'sew-on' and had thread holes at the ends of some of the petals and the bottom of the stem... like this:

I'm not aware of them being produced with a back pin as an alternative attachment method, nor with any kind of gem set in the centre.
