eBay's Great for buying Metal Detectors.

I scored two great finds on eBay recently. ?Got a Minelab XT18000 for $400 and a Garrett AT3 for $150.00. ?Been wanting a XT18000 for hunting the beaches for gold chains and small gold. ?The Garrett AT3 is a great TR beach machine and will be my backup metal detector to my Minelab Excalibur. ?But to win each one, I had watch the bids till the final moment to place my final bid.
Now I'm marketing stuff on eBay slowly building my own little business.

Yes you can really get some great deals if you are persitent enough to check it out reguarly...

i.e., I saw someone selling a VibraProbe 560 for $30 buy it now... I already have a couple pinpointers or I woulf have hopped on it, actually went back in a half hour later as I was going to go ahead and grab it as a backup for later on down the road and it was "gone-d"...

Be vigilant though and check out feedback thoroughly "b4" you bid...

I watched several months for the explorer 11 and they all sold as high as I got a brand new one from kellyco for. I guess I was never there at the right time.

yeah, you have to check it often... I saw an Ace 250 with the general KellyCo kit go for $150... guy said he bought it for his granddaughter who showed no interest...

I put it on my watch list to show my father-in-law and it was gone the next morning...

It's those Buy It Now deals... they don't last...

That is less than KellyCo pays for it FYI . Very good deal .

Re: eBay's Great for buying Metal Detectors.

Yeah, the only really good deals are going to come from people like this who bought one and got disenchanted with it for whatever reason...

they are few and far between but they do show up...

Re: eBay's Great for buying Metal Detectors.

Just my 2 Lincoln's here about buying a hot deal on ebay . . . .

I have bought a number of items on ebay and will buy again, I'm sure . . . there are good deals there. However . . . . I recently bought my ACE 250 w/accessories from Kellyco. About a week later I noticed that the pinpointer (they are worth the money) was intermitten. I contacted Kellyco and they sent me a new one with a shipping label to return the defective one, no cost to me. Also, if or when I have questions or need a bit of info, dealers are almost always more than willing to help.

Buy on ebay when it makes sense but consider your needs for support also. I have read some good comments here about the service Garrett and White dealers and manufacturers have delivered. Some day you may want to have that support also.

Just my thoughts . . .

I bought my Whites Dxl from ebay as a new unit and paid less than a new XLT from a dealer. Check the feedback and be patient!

Congrats on Ebay purchases,Im afraid I dont know much about the minelab, but I do know the AT3 well. It isnt a tr machine it is vlf with freq around 7. I used it for 3 years 87-89. It is waterproof to 6 feet only. The nice thing about it was it had 2 discriminatons to adjust notch and had 2 tones. PM me if you have any questions about it

Re: eBay's Great for buying Metal Detectors.

There are some pitfalls. On occasion scams will surface. These are usually high end Minelab PIs($3500 detector) scams. I have seen some Explorers also sold as scams although rare.
On occasion some new buyer of a high end machine will complain on the forums that his E-Bay machine doesn't seem to function as well as those of the forums. What has happened is that someone has tweaked the machine and when it didn't operate well has dumped it on E-bay. New guys wouldn't know if their machines weren't running right until long after the sale is over.

To tell you the truth I prefer to buy used from a reputable dealer(most of them are). It may cost me a bit more but I know if the dealer says "Mint condition" it will be so. Any problems 2 days after the sale will be taken care.

Just my slant on things.

Re: eBay's Great for buying Metal Detectors.

Got my White's coinmaster 6000D for $79.00 + shipping. Don't know how good of a deal that is for such an old machine but it's in beautiful condition and I'm satisfied.

Re: eBay's Great for buying Metal Detectors.

buying anything over $100 bucks off of ebay always makes me nervous. The most expensive item i ever bought off of ebay was about $400 & I was a nervous wreck until i recieved my purchase. I have only been scammed a couple of times on ebay & it was always under 50 bucks. These days.... If i were to spend serious cash (over $500) on ebay.... I would insist on using a legit escrow service.
You really have to be careful these days.... even a spotless feedback record doesnt always ensure that you are not being scammed.

1. Check out the sellers feedback... if he's a reputable person it will show... don't buy anything from someone who has little to no feedback or horrible feedback

2. Pay with your credit card via PayPal, that way you have an avenue to pursue should problems like fraud arise. I got ripped by some chinaman selling fake PS2 games that I had bought for my son for Christmas... recovered every cent.

3. Use your instincts... common sense will snif out a rotten egg...
