I got another piece that is real today for $100 it is a silver teardrop earings from the Peretti collection that sells for $450 at T&CO. Should I get it cleaned at tiffany's and post a picture of the receipt from getting the piece cleaned as proof it is real tiffany earrings? I have not seen that done before. I thought it would be good to prove I have the goods in case I get scammed by a buyer. HH

Sounds like a good idea as long as they don't charge an arm and a leg to clean it. Of course if you post a photo of the hallmarks you shouldn't have anything to worry about either. There are a lot of watchdogs and lookyloos on ebay. If they see something suspect (such as a knock off Tiffany item), they will report it to ebay. If fake, ebay will remove the listing. You seem to be finding a lot of Tiffany lately. You getting it all off of CL?

pic of the earrings.

How do I get MACRO pics?

How do I get MACRO pics?

Put your camera in macro mode & take the pix very close up (within 18 inches or less) assuming your using a 5MP camera or higher. Don't use a cell phone camera use a real digital camera! Take the pix with & without flash as well! Get pix of the hallmarks that is very very very important!

This.

and make sure you take pictures in very good lighting conditions. Go into a room with a lot of windows and open the blinds. That usually works well.

Thanks guys. HH

Yes, hallmarks.....and time. The pics you have are great, just add the ones suggested above. I think it's a great deal for the person looking for these earrings but there aren't always buyers right away (or lookers). Patience :)

Exactly what jersey said or you can even take them outside in the sun for the pix & always take more pix than you will need. Choose only the pix that represent it(them) the best, not pix that make them look a different color or strange in anyway what so ever!

I hope one of you guys got these earrings, becuase my starting bid of $115 got taken out with 8 seconds to go! Ugh .. that was stupid of me. $450 earrings retail. oy!

Nah, retail means absolutely nothing.

I think you did well at $115. It is a constant learning and growing process. Have no regrets, just learn for the next time.

If it was on all week, and the buyer bid with 8 seconds left, that is very normal. It's much worse to put something on and have it sell in 8 seconds! :) Also, sometimes listings take a while to enter the system and it depends on what category. One I list in can take several hours before it will be seen by anyone. Plus when a listing goes on it's at the back, and won't be viewed nearly as much as when it gets to the last couple of days. As long as you had the category right, decent pics and description, chances are you got what they're worth.

I will have to defer to your experience, but it looks like you can work ebay if you are clever enough with auctions and buy something on ebay then resell it next week at a profit.

I've been doing it steady since about 2002. If I could only go back with the experience I have now I would make a small fortune. but obviously that ain't going to happen so I'll just be happy I've been able to adapt and keep doing what I like to do.

The price you got was fair, retail (as has been said before) means nothing as you are not Tiffany's. Most jewelry is only really worth 1/4-1/3rd of the retail price tho Tiffany pieces should be at the top end of that if not higher. As with many things the smallest pieces usually are the least valuable or desired (with many exceptions) but most earrings probably are not one of those exceptions.
