You can always schedule your auction to start at any day and time you want... So say it's Monday and you want to have a auction that ends on Sunday at 9:00 est .. schedule it to start on Tuesday at 9:00 est for 5 days..

First of all, do not use the simple form when listing items. You do it on the main (sell an item) listing page below where you put in the description where it says "Choose how you'd like to sell your item". At the bottom of that particular section, click where it says "schedule start time" and put in the time you want to start and the amount of days you want to list it for. It will end at the same time it starts on a given day or night. One note- eBay uses Pacific time so for me that means my start times are 3 hours earlier than what they really are. IE- 7pm is really 10pm.
Here is a photo of the webpage -

The auctions last 3, 5, 7, 10 days etc. if you want the auction to run for 7 days and end at noon on saturday then list the item at noon the previous Saturday and so on. The time you list is the same time it will end... Just choose how many days and do the math.

I use auctiva and can schedule any start time and it will end exactly 7 days later. I like my auctions to end on a Saturday or Sunday evening at 8PM. (I do not have to pay extra to schedule like on feeBay)

But lately, over the holidays, I have just been trying to list as much as I could so I could have a backlog of items that I could relist and relist to always have something up for auction. I have 16 up right now with bids on 6.

I am also having a different problem right now. I will list an auction at a price I can live with and a BIN a lot higher and people keep buying the BIN before it can get a bid. One big problem last night I listed 6 old pocket watches with opening bid of $25 and a BIN of $60. Someone snatched it up in under 3 minutes.

Sounds like you are pricing things you don't know enough about. If a BIN goes in 3 minutes you can be pretty sure you gave it away.... so auction them and start at the buy it now prices you're using. I'm sitting here feeling frustrated with your selling! lol

Thanks guys! I was using the wrong page. Going to try a new listing now.

Agreed!! I'm gonna have to watch cyberdan's auctions from now on see if I can get a deal on a BIN. lol
Unless you are sure what something is worth, never list it with a BIN.

I am happy with what I am getting and if someone gets a bargain good for him. I have over 100 lbs of watches to sell and talking with the person I bought them from he has a lot more. I bought over 300 lbs of watches and jewelry last Spring. Pulled out all the AU & AG now I am getting rid of the un-wanted.

For now I am keeping the 8 Rolex and 1 Brietling that were mixed in. (all fake of course)

When I worked at the auction house I was amazed at how many huge boxes of watches we auctioned off... Probably 2 boxes a week, hundreds if not thousands... I always wondered how someone accumulates so many junk watches... I guess they buy the lot, pull out a few that appeal to them, throw in 10-20 junk watches that they own and auction it off again :dontknow:

My jaw nearly hit the floor before I read the end and I was ready to write.... I'LL DO A BIN ON THOSE! Probably followed by something like... So where do you buy these watches? :laughing7: (I have 2 Breitlings)

That has to mean there's a good score to be had once in a while. I'd be decent as far as brand names go for the top 50 or so, but I'd be in trouble if there was any competition and I had to try and value them. Not to mention a high level fake would no doubt have me scratching my head.

I originally bought 150 +/- pounds at one yardsale. I can't remember all the numbers. The yardsale owner said her family had a CASH FOR GOLD business that went out of business because of bad employees. I paid about $35 for all that. I went through every single piece in there, yes I am OCD. I started pulling out bits and pieces of AU & AG so I went back to that yardsale house about 2 weeks later and it was empty. I did a bunch of detective legwork and calling (yes, I used to be a cop) and got in touch with the seller. I went to her house (actually her father in laws) and bought about 150 more pounds for $177 and they told me they have a lot more. The father-in-law drives a harder bargain the the yardsale owner. I am in the process now of getting more.

P.S. I think I am going to keep the Brietling. It is really nice. The only thing that gives it away as a fake is the stopwatch doesn't quite work correctly.

As soon as you seen there was money to be made you should have went and bought them all. I absolutely hate missing out on something because I either waited, or wasn't willing to pay enough at the time.

There would be no point to putting the fake ones on ebay (not that you said you were), especially the Breitling, because I'm a member of a forum that constantly has them zapped off ebay... and they are very good at what they do. Guess it's fun for them, sort of like a hunt maybe. I used to have a fake Tag many years ago, it's what actually made me want to get a real one.

I did try to get more but they kept putting me off. This last time I have been put off for about a month. He said right after new year would be good. I do not know if they are willing to sell all at the same time. Funny thing is he does not need the money. He lives "behind the gates" in a $750,000 house in the middle of a country club.

But him not not needing the money is probably why you are getting good deals. If I was you the first thing I'd do is pick out all the automatics and search them on ebay. My mother does the yard sale thing etc., mostly for toys, and a couple years back I told her to grab any watches she seen that were cheap. A short time later she bought a little group for $2.00 which included a ladies Omega which sold for $35 I think, and a vintage Rotary that got $50. As you know, or have become aware, there's a lot of different watch companies, and almost any brand that's decent now, they're vintage stuff is worth money too. That Tudor posted on here is a great example, and a brand many would have not realized was a pretty good score. You should do what I do with coins, cherry pick the piles like crazy, and then sell the junk in a lot. If you're going to do it you might as well make the most you can. I do assume what you're dealing with was picked pretty clean but you never know.

I don't buy watches. :) I did once, actually a big pile that was posted on here, and it was just junk and a couple fakes, and I lost a bit on the deal. But if I was doing my shopping in person like most of you guys are, I would definitely be watching for them. As for looking out for other items, again if I traveled around locally I would follow the same basic rules i do for buying online.... And those are.... If I see something I think I can make money on regardless of what it is, I buy it! (or try to) The other rule is the less I know about something the lower the amount of money I'd risk for it. Up to $100 I am not concerned about in the least, so being willing to accept even $100 loss makes me pretty gutsy because a lot I buy is under that amount, and in the end the no guts - no glory strategy pays off. Now for $150 and over, I'm a little less happy about getting stung there, but if i do it was either a well thought out calculated risk that just ended up bad, or something really stupid and unexpected happened that couldn't be helped.... and in either case I'm fine with it, just how it goes.

Oh, yes I cherry picked it to death.
Even the tiny bits and pieces (that setteled to the bottom of the bin) that I thought might be gold, but couldn't test because they were so tiny refined out to $300 of AU.

Iron Patch, I really admire your chutzpah! I bought two little Enesco figurines and brought them home today. Well, as soon as I went to polish them up to list, one of their heads popped right off. I've been sitting here stewing about my "big" loss... they cost me all of $4 bucks - LOL!!
