I recently sold a thermal engine on ebay and sent it priority to a town in Illinois. I received positive feedback from the buyer saying fast shipment and great item as described. Now I have a case open saying he never got it and he accidentally left that feedback. I checked the tracking and it arrived in the buyers Illinois town post office and then took off again for new york, new york and was delivered there yesterday. I was wondering what I should do, this is my first ebay case against me and the buyer never messaged me to inform me of this mix up. Thoughts, previous experiences, help!?
Thanks,
Dustin

Also this buyer has a feedback of 1500 and 100%.

Communication for starters, but in the end this I would think is going to come down to a postal claim so hopefully you insured it.

More and more people these days just file claims and don't bother writing. If they're at the deadline I understand it, but if not I always think why don't you ust write first!

If the package is not lost and is still showing up on tracking he will likely get it eventually. Have you asked him to simply be patient and given him this new info ? An open case just means Ebay is aware there's a problem. They won't issue a refund right away. Add the info that the item is still in transit and not lost to the case details. The details of your post are a bit confusing to be honest. Does tracking simply show it in NY in transit or delivered to an address in NY ? I think it's time to call your post office.

Ebay feedback for buyers is, in my ever-so-humble opinion, utterly worthless. As a seller, the only options to leave feedback for a buyer is "Positive" or "Leave Feedback Later". I know some POed sellers leave negative comments in the text field when leaving "Positive" feedback but those comments have no bearing on the percentage calculation.

The package was just delivered in New York.

Call the NY fuzz and give them the tracking number?

If it were shipped priority, it is automatically insured for up to $50. Put yourself in the buyer's shoes, he bought and paid for something he hasn't received. If the USPS can't straighten it out, file the claim and at least you can recover some of the price.

Sending it priority mail you have delivery confirmation. And hopefully you kept the receipt from the post office. The receipt shows the zipcode it was supposed to ship to when you dropped it off. If it changed in route, you have proof that it was not your mistake but the post office. They SHOULD track the package down and send an employee to the actual delivery address to retrieve it.
Sounds kinda unusual that the buyer posted feedback if they didn't actually have the item in hand.

Thats a pain in the neck! It will probably come back to you at some poiny.

Also- It's not always the buyer's intention to open a case. It's the way it's set up. When you click contact seller you are prompted to select an option from a series of radio buttons. If you choose "other" it jus sends your message to the seller. However if you click "item is not as described" or "I haven't received my item yet" then it triggers the case wizard and you have to affirmatively opt out. I've accidentally opened cases this way and have had dozens of buyers who've accidentally done it to my company.

If the post office sent some one to retrive it and they said no it is now mine. That would be the end of it.If the post office delivers some thing to you evan if you did not order it. it by law is yours. It was done that way to give the post office a reason to pay attition to there job and to get it right.

With priority shipping, it's automatically insured for $100. I don't understand how an item can get delivered to the correct post office in the correct state and town and then get shipped to an address in NY,NY when it was addressed to someone, somewhere in Illinois. It would require a new address label for that to happen. I know the PO messes up every now and then but this is above and beyond a little mistake. Something doesn't smell right here, at all. I'd be on the phone getting to the bottom of this one myself. With the post office that is.

I think I'd check with the IL post office to make sure that address isn't being forwarded to NY. It's a pretty dumb way to try and scam someone, but who the heck knows these days. I assume just calling USPS would be able to tell you that too.

I called and that didn't work out but I went to the post office and they said that they must have entered the zip wrong by switching two of the numbers but they have no idea about the New York thing.

How did they pay you?If by Pay Pal,you go through their dispute process.Go to Pay Pal and click on dispute process..Pay Pal will take info given from both sides and make a judgement based on that.Only communicate through Pay Pal only! You want everything recorded to go through them for a fair judgement on your side of the story..If not through Pay Pal,then maybe by credit card? The buyer would go through their process..If some other method, you would go through Ebays dispute process..Any way you go,it is what it is..But remember all communications should go through the dispute center you need..Don't make any one on one direct e mail communications...

ebay usually fixes things
so long as you have proof of mailing
tracking, receipt and it does seem strange getting feedback before getting the item
and positive at that, start the process with ebay as well as the po. and yes paypal
without a doubt
i sell and buy on there.something seems??? fishy
but maybe just an honest mistake
good luck

How many days was it held in IL? Maybe the guy didn't get a notice, or didn't pick it up, and the reason it left for NY was because it was suppose to be going back to you. That doesn't explain where it ended up, but maybe a little more of the story. It sounds like it all happened fairly quick so probably not. Also if a buyer refuses a package that must somehow go in the system? You would think there has to be a reason it left for NYC.

another reason for the wrong address is a change of address order type mistake. a neighbor i had. when his son of the same name got married and moved out the kid filed a change of address with the post office. all the family mail started getting sent to the kid.
