Hey guys, I found this button yesterday on a colonial site i am screening/detecting. I just think it is so cool to see the original fabric still intact after so long in the ground.

Nice design on the front too. You do have to wonder as to how strong thread was back then, especially with the number of colonial buttons found lately....

It doesn't happen often, but I have had it a few times in the well drained soils around here.

I think that part of the reason these fibers survive occasionally is that they were likely made of hemp instead of cotton.
