Far, Far Away
Got out for a few hours this morning and found a nice pocket of deep targets. A handful of clad, the normal junks and these three rings. I took the before cleaning and after cleaning photo's. One of the rings turned out to be plated junk. The gold is 9ct? a first for me, actually looks like 14k. We'll have to test it. The silver is .925. I finally put together a simple electrolysis unit and am pleased with the cleaning results.

Excellent finds and clean up. You should post pics of your simple electrolysis unit for those that haven't seen one.

Nice ring finds Da Sand Crab......your electrolysis unit
did a great job cleaning them. Like was already mentioned,
the 9ct marking is used a lot in Europe on gold jewelery.

I got the instructions on the "Cleaning and Preservation" page of this site. There is a post on making units and on that post there is a thread that directs you to gometaldecting.com/cleaning. Though it's been explained to me before, this explanation and illustration was step by step and easy to follow and it does work.

I was afraid to try it on the gold. I just used the lime juice soak and lightly broke the crust free of the ring. Usually you don't get stuff like that stuck to gold but I guess it's because of the low content and the other base metals being more predominant.

Sand Crab you always find the nicest stuff. Nice going, and keep it up because it really gets me ready to hit the water. Niffler
