Got up and drove to a local beach before sunrise this morning and spent ~2.5 hours enjoying the peace and solitude while hunting up to my neck in nice sun warmed fresh water. Saw a heron and turkey both eating stuff along the beach and it was near because there was a heavy mist floating along the water for the first hour or so.

Here are my finds - excited about the necklace (I know what 14K means, but anyone know what IN or AWAD stands for?). The little charm doesn't have markings but it has weight to it and I think it's probably silver. No idea about the earrings - my gut feeling is because the posts don't appear to be anything special, they are quite likely not diamonds, but darn cool to find anyways and I'll get em checked out soon to make sure.

Happy hunting everyone.

Hey Cubbie, congrats on an awesome day of hunting! I think you've hit the jackpot there! And our Cubs swept the Cards...........its been a great week, eh? I'd be getting back out there soon, gotta be more gold for ya! ;D

:o :o :o By jiminy you got the worm this morning. AWESOME! If I had to take a wild guess, I would say the IN stands for India, and the AWAT is some kind of quality standard.

Keep on Swingin

Hehe - thanks AP. It's been a mighty dismal season for our Cubs, but anytime they can sweep the Cardinals (especially in a 4 game series), it brings a smile to my face!!

!4 kt gold chain The AWAD is a jeweler in New york nice finds well done seeya Neilo

Great find .. that necklace looks like it has some good weight to it.

A lot of gold will have those stamps, 14K for the gold .. and in this case
AWAD and IN are hallmarks for the company that made them.

I bet you had a big grin when you saw that come to light.

Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Very nice finds,...... there is an area of "silver" underneath "AWAD" that makes me think it's plated something though.....does anyone see that?.....and also, some of the edges look like the metal underneath is coming through........not trying to down your finds, just an observation........great job!!

HH all!

Don't worry about "downing my finds" as part of posting here is to get information which you definitely gave!! I didn't notice that area on the clasp that looks like it's worn off - you may very well be right (although I really hope not :P). Are the clasps on gold necklaces and such also usually gold, or is there a possibility that they are of a different metal so as to hold up to more abuse? I'm not sure about wear on the edges although I have a microscope at work and take a look tomorrow. About all I can say is that it definitely has weight to it which led me to believe it wasn't plated, but who knows.

Does anyone know of a good way to tell if something is really gold as opposed to gold plated?

Thanks :)
