✅ SOLVED Early military button...Revolutionary War maybe?

I was out searching some very early sites and stumbled across this button. It appears to be a design that pre-dates the War of 1812 but I cannot find a match. Any help would be appreciated

Although worn down I think there is enough detail left to ID your button. It looks like GI 25 C in Albert's book. It is described as: GI 25 Army, Cast pewter 1-piece. 1792-98. C. 16 five pointed stars above Blank back, 23mm.

That is a nice find.

Never seen pewter look like that, looks repro to me.

I took a better picture..the button may look a bit shiny only because I rubbed with a cloth with some renaissance wax. I found in the Straits of Mackinaw so it was definitely in the right region for these troops.

That was my first thought, but the condition seems consistent with other examples of Wayne's Legion buttons.

OK, it wasn't really the shine that put me off, although those pictures makes it look more promising.
