I was out searching some very early sites and stumbled across this button. It appears to be a design that pre-dates the War of 1812 but I cannot find a match. Any help would be appreciated

Although worn down I think there is enough detail left to ID your button. It looks like GI 25 C in Albert's book. It is described as: GI 25 Army, Cast pewter 1-piece. 1792-98. C. 16 five pointed stars above Blank back, 23mm.

That is a nice find.

Never seen pewter look like that, looks repro to me.

I took a better picture..the button may look a bit shiny only because I rubbed with a cloth with some renaissance wax. That was my first thought, but the condition seems consistent with other examples of Wayne's Legion buttons.
