I got a chance to visit a large farm where we have been locating Native American home sites that appear to date from the late 1790s to around 1820. Being in a recently plowed field, there's really not much in the way of obvious evidence to aid in locating them. Basically, you just have to walk blindly across the field and hope that you happen hit a debris field. Today we did just that. I ended up with a tomahawk that I believe will cleanup nicely, a copper thimble, copper arrowhead, and a musket ball. Not bad for a two hour hunt!

Hey! That is some great looking stuff. Not sure about the arrowhead. I never saw one like that. Perhaps some else will chime in on that. You gotta love that tomahawk though. It would be real interesting to find out the age on that one. That ball looks old by the amount of minerals built up on it.

The copper arrowheads were rolled by the natives and sometimes made from copper kettles that were traded by the settlers. They are few and far between unless your on the right time period of a site. This is late 1790s and there was a lot of trading going on before the Native Americans' were forced off their own land. For here in SW Georgia, it would have been in the 1820s-30s.

Here are some others that were dug nearby in past hunts.

Cool finds. That Tomahawk is awesome. Congrats!

The Ax will clean up nicely , I'm still looking for 1 of that type , Seems you always catch flack on those points , but they make sense for the time period of your site .

Thanks. Im hoping to have it cleaned up soon. As far as the copper points, a lot of collectors aren’t familiar with them because they are scarce and a lot of folks have never seen them before let a lone find any.

Great finds, congratulations! Both the trade axe and the arrowhead are top shelve.

Ga Rebel is correct, those are arrow points.......I have found similar ones on an Ioway Indian village site that dates 1765-1820.
