Early Foreign Silver Coin?

Found this coin for sale on eBay, and was just wondering if anyone can ID it. The guy selling it has no idea what it is, where it's from, or anything about it. It's obviously some early foreign silver coin...just what exactly, and how much could it be worth? Thanks! -Michael

The bird reminds me of an Imperial Eagle, so I am thinking Austrian. Possibly an early Thaler? Is there a date on the coin?

The folks overseas will be able to help with this one.

Thanks a lot everyone for the thoughts and research! Anyone have any clue as to what it may be worth? Or does that all depend on the specific identification of the coin? I am pretty clueless when it comes to foreign coins, especially early foreign coins. Thanks for the help...

I'd be leary of just about any "old" or even newer coins sold on Ebay. I know the Chinese are producing lots of "old" coins by the bizillions. This has been going on for quite awhile and there are lots and lots of fake coins floating all around. If it's too good to be true ..... and let the buyer beware but I sure wouldn't put my money into those auctions expecting to come away with a good deal. These fakes area major problem. They have made their way to flea markets, yard sales and any other method of selling junk to an overly excited buyer. A fool and his money are soon parted. I'm not making any assement of the coin in question but I'd sure caution anyone thinking of buying coins this way. In my mind you're better off just waiting to dig a genuine piece up with the detector. There is always a chance that that coin could also be a dropped or lost fake but at least it didn't cost you anything.
Just be careful and be aware of the ongoing fake coin problems.
