Haven't been getting out nearly as much this year as last year, but we had a pretty torrential rain last night in northern NJ, so I decided to put in a little time this afternoon at a local turn-of-the-century park...hoping to find some deep signals. This was a 10-38 to 10-40 that buried the depth gauge on the eTrac. Came from around 10". I pulled a 1723 KG1 from damn near a foot deep here in 2015 (my first copper) so when i saw it I definitely had my hopes up.

Unfortunately it's pretty wasted. I couldn't see jack squat in the field.

But after I got it home and took a look under the lights i think i can make out Britania. The horizontal line above where the date should be is there but doesn't show up very well in this pic.

Thoughts? Am I just imagining things?

Congrats on pulling a deep target.
The Etrac is a beast. It's toasted but I think you might be able to get some more detail.

I see edge reeding if that helps

Have you tried lighting it from the sides with a flashlight?

Id say just assume its a 1793 chain cent. Lol

Chris, any copper from those parks up by us is a winner. Looks like a British copper by the looks. The difference could be the KGi was regal, and this one was a counterfeit using inferior metals.
