Just wanted to share these fine and colorful early archaic beauties.......The first one is a 3" x 1 5/8" Pinetree/Hardaway hybrid found in Goat Creek, a tributary of the Hurricane watershed system located in Northeast Mississippi. It exhibits exquisite flaking on both faces and is extremely thin and symmetrical. One blade edge exhibits a recurve, most likely due to sharpening. The base is heavily ground and the edges are serrated. I'm not sure what the 'official' name of the lithic material is; we call it 'Tishomingo' in these parts. The color speaks for itself. It is super-glossy and a high grade of flint. The reason I call it a hybrid is, it exhibits characteristics of both types. That means that it dates back at least 7000-8000 b.p. possibly even longer. Number two is a McCorkle point made from a very rare material, Horsecreek chert, or Pickwick Tri-color. This is a cutie! Again, color, color, color!!!!!!! It also dates back to the early archaic age. Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting, folks. The compliments and comments are much appreciated!
