✅ SOLVED Early 1800’s Navy Button

Does anyone have a book they can look this button up in? I know it is very early Navy, but for some reason I cannot find a duplicate anywhere online.. maybe even a cleaned up version would be neat to see. It has 15 Five Point Stars. Not Asteriks. Eagle Facing left and the rope it is on is braided. No readable marking on back side.. it is not flat. It is rounded.. any help would be appreciated!

I just was hoping for some confirmation on exact year and maybe to see a duplicate... surely it isn’t a one of a kind.. but who knows.. with those buttons they needed so many so quick there were probably often mistakes in the manufacturing..

From what I can figure it is between 1830 and 1852.

It is impossible to time-date a button to an "exact year" it was made. So, the best you can hope for is to narrow it down to approximately a 10-year range. I'd say 1810-to-20, based on several known factors.

It is a brass 1-piece button, and no 2-piece brass US Navy buttons existed until the 1830s... so your 1-piece brass one must pre-date that time. The 1798 version of US Navy buttons has the oval-shaped shield on the button's left. Around 1810 the oval shield was moved to the button's right. The oval-shaped shield was replaced by the spade-shaped shield in the very-early 1820s. Thus, logic indicates your button was made sometime between approximately 1810 and 1820.

As Creskol indicated, the Albert button-book does not show an exact match for your button. And, because it has no backmark, the logic given above is the best we can do for you about time-dating it.

My first thought was War of 1812 US Navy Button.
