Need help on the piece between the flattened thimble and the flat button. The site (in Mississippi) has yielded evidence of activity from the late 1700s through the 1800s. Some kind of ear ring or maybe a nose ring?
Thanks

antique key ring or hose clamp? (just wild guesses). Is there any spring in it?

The 'horseshoe' looking part is the 'catch' for a hook attachment on clothing(hook & eye). It was sewn on the clothing where the 2 round circles are at the bottom on the catch. An example of this type of clothing closure would be at the neck area of a cape or cloak. Although the one pictured below is not exactly like yours, it's close. There were many variations, but the idea is still the same; hook & eye. Nice finds, Breezie

I think you are right Breezie but one question. Did they make them as large as a thimble?

The largest ones I've ever seen sewn were used on a man's antique cape/cloak. It's been a while back, but from what I remember they were fairly large. I guess they would have to be to hold the weight of a heavy wool cape, especially if the wearer was riding a horse. I'm thinking the one MSRelic has is from the Turn of the Century or earlier. The ones pictured on the card are very small; circa 1950's. I have found these in CW camps (but as you know, that does not necessarily mean they're CW), and will see if I can figure out which box they're in and take some pics. Breezie

PS: MSRelic, if you wear it in your nose, it WILL be a nose ring; LOL.

Hard to believe, but I found 2 in the first box. One day I'm going to categorize all of this stuff. Anyway, here's 2 that are similar compared to the size of an old thimble.
