Brand new to the site and hobby so please forgive me if not posted in the wrong area. Been at it one week and found this EGA in my back yard. Research has left me with conflicting data. Would love to try and get a accurate date/period for this . It has the screw on back , no rope on anchor and no longitudinal lines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the info I also found that but it is missing a lot of the chapters seems to end around 1914 chapter IV? From the info that was there I don’t think mine is that old?
I am also USAF veteran parachute rigger , I actually married a aircrew life support lady back in the old days lol, nice meeting you

So we are brothers cool! You know Aircrew Life Support 122X0 then 1T1X1 merged with Survival Equipment / Parachute Shop 2A790 and we are now known as Aircrew Flight Equipment 1P0X1. I think the merger started in Oct 07 and wrapped up in Oct 08.

As for your EGA you could perused the US Militaria forum to narrow the date down, they have an extensive section on them. Both officer and enlisted versions from day one until today. Prior to 1955 enlisted EGAs had no rope and prior to 1962 officer EGAs had no rope. That refers to the collar emblem, which yours should be due to size. So no newer than 1962

EGA REFERENCE - GARY MOHRLANG MEMORIAL SECTION [REF] - U.S. Militaria Forum

ETA: Welcome to Tnet, the people here are awesome, friendly and very knowledgable. So stick around and enjoy the camaraderie, you'll fit right in.

Hey Mike thanks for the info
I read the merger a few years ago and actually thought it was a good idea Worked pretty close back in my days , small world for sure ! I’ll definitely check the link and see what I can find. Between the EGA and the German nazi badge my back yard has me digging like crazy lol

Missing the longitudinal lines means it was made post 1936. Also does it have the Island of Cuba on it? If so it's the enlisted version, if no on Cuba it's the officers version.

So right now it dates between 1936 and either 1955 or 1962. Narrowing it down a little bit more for you.

Cool deal, figure out what to soak it in to clean it up a bit. You might be able to find a makers mark that could help narrow the date down a little bit more.

Narrowed yours down a little bit more for you. Yours is a WWI variation. If you look at the back side of your eagle it's flat, Korean War era ones that area was scalloped out. See link below for pictures that explain it.

http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/165409-ega-identification/

So yours is a WWII Enlisted USMC EGA, based on a non-fouled anchor with no longitudinal lines, and flat eagle backside, and having the Island of Cuba.

BTW: If you feel the question is answered fo your satisfaction, you can mark it as solved, by giving it a green check. Been awhile since I've done it so I don't recall how to do it.
