I found this today but have no clue what it is. ??? It measures 1 1/2 inches long and 1/2 inch at the widest part of the circle. It appears to be some sort of clip. I can see it has an eagle on it but what is this thing for and how old is it?

Peachy... :) Nice find!

The eagle looks like the Great Seal of the United States... common on US Army items since the early 1900s till today.

I think it's a little bent, and is a type of pucket or belt clip? Maybe a breast pocket clip that held a whistle for an MP or something like that... I dunno!

I concur with Jim it looks to be the great Seal. Perhaps a money clip keychain, or has he suggested to clip something to a pocket or belt. Interesting piece.

Very cool - I like the way the corrosion makes it look like an ancient artifact - something along the liines of the things Crusader pulls out of those fields.
Is it a civil war relic?

I found something like that with a chain and key ring on it.
My Grandpa use to carry his pocket watch on a chain and he had a clip like that on the end to clip it to his pocket.
Nice find!!

I'm back - and I agree... maybe a vest pocket holding the watch chain... it's not a uniform item but maybe a soldiers personal item. Held a watch chain or the like...

I believe I have seen this before complete, trying to search or remember where. I think it is WW1 era, army, and had a metal attached to bottom and hung on pocket. attached is an army button from same era. Mia have you been able to read anything on back of it?

I went ahead and soaked it in peroxide. It turned out okay but there is no mark on the back. :-\

Peach it is a very awesome find

Every expert I showed it to in the field of military uniforms says it is a breast pocket clip that held a chain and whistle. So looks like Jim was right on it.

I am still trying to get you an era of it, most believe it is in the 1910-1920 time frame.

Like I said it is a very awesome discovery!!
