Found this one piece eagle button Saturday. I looked it up in my Tice book and all I can figure out with the R.R. +7 stars is Richard Robertson 1813-1828 as you can see it is worn so if there was a letter on the shield it is not visable. It has a really nice green patina to it and it measures 18mm.

Looks like you have already ID'd it... nice button! US Army button, early 1800s.

Wait - are you guessing at the back mark? I don't think Robinson used R R as a back mark...

I could have the name wrong, I do not have the book in front of me at the moment. I would have to check it when I get home from work.

In the Albert book there is a similar button, it is listed as GI 66a with the "RR" mark plus "Treble Gilt". Not sure about the stars. Good luck!! Keep us informed.

Is it my imagination or is there letters under the Eagle?

Robinson used RR and like sneaky6 said with TREBLE GILT. I'm sure the RR is a Robinson backmark There are a lot of variants of backmarks. If it were possible to find out, the use of the stars might narrow the date down a bit.
