Look at Albert's button book, page 40, item number 98. General service, 2 piece, made between 1875 and 1902. Here in the Chattanooga area we find a lot of those. Note the tip of the wings go more towards ten o'clock, while the civil war era buttons go more towards 11 o'clock.

To narrow the date down a bit more, the HORSTMANN . PHILADELPHIA backmark was used. I do believe the rest of Philadelphia is on the button and that there was a period between the last N of Horstmann and Philadelphia. That makes it 1893-1947 style, but since 1902 was the cutoff I believe for that design of Eagle, than the button is from 1893-1902 era. (LOL , I think)

The letter that looks like a Y threw me a curve also, but once I realized a N would look like that on the angle it made sense. The spacing between the two words aided in backmark ID. Nick, you do not need new eyes or glasses, it is very hard to determine. :)
