These were found yesterday. I posted them in todays finds, 108 views, not 1 response.
I think the eagle button is civil war, Union eagle ? The other is smooth on the front, no design. the back says " London Extra Rich"
I am mostly interested in knowing if I am right on the eagle and a date on the other.

Thanx in advance for any help.

The eagle button is a General Service button, a design in use from 1854 to 1902, listed by Albert as #GI 94.

This particular variety, with a "Waterbury Button Co. / Extra" backmark and inner "rope" ring is attributed on p. 141 of Tice's book Uniform Buttons of the United States, 1776-1865 as, "Probably post Civil War."

The other button is an early 19th century civilian, plain-faced gilt button.

THANK YOU, PBK !!

I think I have found a " Virgin " spot to hunt. Not alot of stuff arround but it all seems to be very old. No coins from there yet but I have only started to hunt this particular cellar hole.

Thanx again, VPR
