Well, this may be hard to ID beyond being a cast brass eagle but maybe there is more to it than that. It was found on old land with walls..late 1800s early 1900s...There is a small hollow in the front that it looks like it attached to something else. It was interesting to read about left and right facing eagle theories.

The item on the bottom right on the second picture reminds me of the bayonet removal/screw driver tool similar to what they use for Mosin Nagant rifles.

Picture two and three shows how it's used, utilizing one of my rifles and the tool. Picture 2 shows the bayonet locked in place with the tool in place, picture 3 shows the bayonet unlocked and the tool still in place.

That’s pretty interesting. The iron piece is quite heavy and seems rounded vs. flat but the shape matches...I know nothing of bayonets so pretty fascinating!

Looks kinda like the one on our flag stand in the front of our church.

The eagle appears to have a center hole on the bottom and looks like something sheared off at that point. I am going to speculate that it was a lampshade finial.

Thank you all for the great ideas. The landowner was curious about it. I am leaning towards the “finial” idea on a flag or lamp..but given the location it was found, a flag seems more likely. It was found in the woods along a path leading to a break in a stone wall and it was on the side of the path near a large flat stone ( reminded me of a place someone could get on and off a horse more easily.) vs. near an old house or a dump that might ave a lamp finial.

Great ideas. Thanks!

There as SOO... many brass eagles out there but I can’t find the exact match. My best guess would put this at the early 1900s based on surrounding area....but I don’t really know.
