The backmark should read "*Ives, Scott & Co*/ Waterbury" It is a one piece convex Artillery button and dates 1834-36. It is the only Artillery button listed in Albert's book with the eagle facing left. That is the eagle with the A in the shield. There are some earlier buttons with the eagle on a cannon facing left as well.

Someone on another form ID'd the brass hoop as a stirrup , do you guys agree? I cleaned up the button and took a better pic.
