E-trac???

Trust me after a while you wont even use that option.

Yeah my GTI 2500's treasure talk warned me to stay away from gimmicks like that.

Ironpatch, I heard somewhere that they quit putting treasure talk on the 2500. Is that true? I had one and that nice lady's voice was soothing even though she lied to me a lot. Monty

No idea.... never had a 2500, and sold my 1500 about 2001 and never thought about another green machine again.

Yes, they stopped putting treasure talk on the 2500 about a year or so ago.

And I'm with Mr. Patch, since I've switched to an Etrac my 2500 hasn't been in my hand....

Nothing on the CD or in the owner's manual about being mac compat, just PC/Windows.

my detector just got here ;D...
it is assembled and now it is charging for 18 hours :(
I have a question? can I use rechargeable batteries in the supplied battery pack for AA batteries ?
It doesn't say in the manual if you can or not..
man i cant weight to get thins thing out....

PH,

Congrats on the E-Trac. You will love it. Unfortunately, the E-Trac is not Mac compatible. We have mostly Macs in our house, so I have not had my E-Trac connected yet, although I have had it over a year.

I don't think there is a problem using rechargeable batteries, but honestly, I have never had my regular battery pack go dead. They will last for many hours. I run mine with a Sun Ray probe, and it will go at least 6 or 7 hours - probably more - on the supplied battery pack.

Good luck! The E-Trac can be a little frustrating at first, but put in some time with it. It is an investment that will pay off.

I know I had recently read either in the owners manual, the minelabowners site or andy S's book about using rechargeables in the AA pack. Pretty sure it said not to use them in the pack.

I think I read or heard this also but cant say for sure. And I cant find anything in the owners manual ether.. but Im not going to try them...

I have a PC and I've hooked up the E-trac only twice in almost two years. I thought I would use that feature more, but nah. Not necessary. Personally, I would like to see a more sophisticated interface. With more custom options and programming ability. I think it is a move in the right direction because that is the nature of technology, to advance. As it is, it's not worth much. Sorry if this bursts someones bubble, it's just MHO. Many people I'm sure will love it anyway, but having the usb port does not find more coins at the end of the dig. Maybe someone can correct me on this if I'm missing something...

Regardless of the usb port, It is an astounding machine. :headbang: Hope to see your finds and may they be many! ;D

Hello all friend and PENNYHUNTER, if you open original rechargeable battery pack on anny explorer or etrak inside you will see the same rechargeable AA battery, just different that they are soldered together, that's all different, If you don't believe me open your self and look inside. you can use them wonderfully well and safe your money and after planet earth. good luck all

I tried out my detector in my backyard today just air test to see how it performs. I think Im going to like this thing allot. but i have a question. What # of tones do you guys run ? I have it on 4 tones right now but i am wondering what the rest of recommend ? any info would be greatly appreciated... thanks

If i got one i don't have any idea why i would want to hook up my detector to a computer. And i don't want to hear all those lame reasons again why you want to hook your detector to your computer.........Like Iron Patch said it is just another sales gimmick.. That is the reason i never bought a garrett 2500 i did not know why i would want a detector that talked.

I use mulit-tones myself. It will give a different sound for basically every coin (and junk, too). In four tones it kind of categorizes the types of metal into four different sounds. The lowest sound would be aluminum foil, gold, and maybe nickels. The second tone would tend to be things like pull tabs, and some gold - it could also include some nickels. The third highest would be screw tops of bottles and may include IH pennies, and possibly new zinc pennies. The highest tone would be wheat and memorial pennies and clad and silver coins.

If you only wanted to dig clad and silver, you could just listen for the highest tone and watch your ID numbers. That would give you a good idea of what you would be digging. The multi-tone, along with the target ID (TID) lets you know a little easier what you are probably going to dig.

Hope this helps,

Dr. Ace

I use multi tones/ conductive sounds. variability/ max. changing the pitch of the threshhold also changes the sounds different targets make. higher threshhold pitch makes higher conductive targets sound more flutey. I put thrsh pitch at 15...the silver sounds sweet there :icon_thumright: and anything higher bothers my ears...

thanks for the info I have been doing some air test to see what I like and i do like multi tones better then 4 tones

I will try the thrsh pitch at 15 and test it latter. thanks

Like already said, does not work on Mac. I exclusively own macs, but I have windows partitions on as well. If you can get your hands on a copy of windows XP, it's easy to install with Bootcamp on Mac. But I would not do it unless, like me, you have other programs you need that don't come in Mac versions. To be honest the E-trac Xchange is just a gimmick. I have never even hooked my Etrac up to my computer, though I have the software installed.
Failing to read everyone's reply, perhaps it was mentioned, one of the most useful things you can do is buy Andy Sabisch's book on Getting the Most out of your Minelab Explorer and Etrac. That said, I like personally to run in Multi-tone (30 or 29 what ever the max is) on conduct, Deep recovery on, Trash off unless I need it, Difficult Soil, Usually Manual sens, And I set my pattern in the smart find screen to reject anything below CO-10 and anything higher than FE-24 or 27 (depending on how charitable I feel). I am afraid the preset coins program will miss things; I know with my setting I wont be digging any 3 -cent nickels, but they are rare around here where I am. These are just settings that work really well for me, in my soil, where I hunt. Experimentation is good. Also get Andy's book.

BTW, learn to trust the audio, and learn to analyze a target not just by tone, pitch, volume, quality, etc but also by what the threshold does...
-Good luck!
