Found This in my yard a while back, thought it was trash until I noticed it was stamped silver plate, its 4 or 5 inches long and a couple inches tall. any ideas?

Maybe horse bridle related? Like what goes between their eyes?

It seams odd that the little tabs would clamp onto something that would cover the Patented / Silver Plated / and the makers marks.
Interesting piece... with I could help with the ID.

I agree with bologna, it's likely horse related, likely saddle decoration. :icon_scratch:
If you could take a picture of it next to a quarter for scale that would help.

Another ā€˜Oldieā€™ but @Older The Better is still around.

I donā€™t know what that is and if there is a patent date or number I canā€™t read it. However, the mark appears to be E & J B, which is for E. & J. Bass of New York, NY. They made all kinds of decorative plated goods between c.1890-c.1930, both sold in finished form and as components for third-party assembly into other goods.
