It's hard to tell because of the blurry picture and no size reference but it looks like a button to me. One that would have been crimped around the outer edge to a disc with a button hole loop.

Whoa! Dekalb, you're a hottie! Can I have a smooch? LOL!.....

My guess would be a button as well, and newer.

If it's under 1-1/2 dia., it's probably a button.

If it's closer to 1-3/4 or 2", it's probably a bridle rosette.

Check the back for attachment points: one for a button; two, widely spaced, for a rosette.

Also, a rosette would be heavier— often made of die-stamped brass, backfilled with lead.

Good call, also, Mojjax!

We really need to know the size of this item, and get a photo of the back of it.

I almost agree with " ;)Mojjax"...knob....back picture would help....also are there holes (hence,to sew onto cloth)One hole in center could be where it would tack onto, or screw, wood, metal!

Sorry, i was in a hurry and i didn't have much time to put in info..here it is-

It is about 2 inches in diameter
The back looks like it has some type of cemant
no atatchment points
It looks a bit big for a knob face, but it might be

Also, it you can't tell, there is a star of David in the center...maybe something religeous?

could be a brooch! ??? close resemblance to the outer edge,.... ??? ???http://www.vigornia.co.uk/roman_brooches.htm check out this sight anyway some cool stuff!

It would be a great match, except that it's hard to find roman broches in an 1880's american town....now that i think of it, it coulb be off of a doornob for some type of temple... Thanks for the help and that was an imaginative idea
