I was checking the usual banks the other day and decided i was gonna go out of my way a bit to try a new bank that recently opened.

I asked the teller if I could get a box of nickles and she sharply replied back with a smart ass look on her face....

" nickles don't come in boxes, they come in rolls."

I immediatly laughed right in her face and asked for the manager. I asked if she was being serious and unfortunatly, she had actually been a teller at another bank for many years. he apologized and handed over a box of nickles.

lets see what you got when it comes to stupid tellers.

I am not going to use the word "dumb"....even though this was from a teller and this is her business. Maybe she was just having a bad day.

My husband went to a bank to buy one box of pennies and the teller told him no problem and that it would be $50. He told her that it must be a BIG box because normally they are $25 per box. She insisted it was $50. She then told the vault teller she needed a box of pennies & off to the vault they went. When she came back with the box he said she was so embarrassed that her cheeks and ears were red....lol. They both laughed about it and she ended up giving him a 2nd box.

Like I said, we all have a bad day now and then......tellers are human too.......personal problems.....family issues.....marital problems.....kids......the list goes on and on.

"Dumb" is kinda harsh.

You got a point about not being rude to a teller that doesn't know stuff thats comon knowledge to us....

it could be worse.....

I asked a teller "what do you do with the coins in the junk tray?" after the subject came up for some reason.
The teller replied; "ohh we just throw them away" I shocked replied " Ohh really!... well do you think you could save them for me? I would love to have them" Then without blinking she said " no; (insert name here) takes them for when her husband goes to Canada"
Me looking puzzled replied "ohh.... I thought you said you threw them away"

Now that on the other hand pisses me off...... lies to my face and apparently has no problem with it. But if you think about it with the Canadian dollar higher then the US dollar right now and someone is taking all those coins that get ejected and not saying anything to the customers..... That could be one heck of a scandal on their hands if someone wanted to press the subject.

ohh man would that burst my bubble.... if the manager is haveing them lie for them and taking all the spoils.

I would imagine that is free money if it never gets counted. Win win for them at the expense of the unknowing customer. Ohh and btw... there has been plenty of times a teller has tried to pawn off foreign coins on me with change. I used to be anal about it and ask for a diffrent one but I dont bother anymore.

One bank thats good to me gave me 2 canadian $2 coins. that ended up in their half bag. They were going to jsut give them to me but I offered 50 cents each because thats what they paid out. Now imagine some manager taking all of them and saying they are trash and a wright off for the bank. Makes sense on why the teller told me they just threw them away.

I cant say that many tellers are dumb. They are human and make honest mistakes of course but who has not?

I have caught tellers making simple mistakes but I can easily see how, particularly with the halves as they dont use them much,
Simple stuff like thinking there is $1000 in a box, or thinking its 20 to the roll. I can see it as its twice as much as a quarter so must be twice as much.
I can only think that crunching numbers all day long can easily lead to mistakes. I took in a box of opened 2007 dimes just the other day and the teller almost gave me $450 instead of $225, I made sure to point out the mistake before she gave me the money, she was embarrassed but I reassured her that I would not want her to make any mistakes. Scores big points with the tellers.

I have run across some rotten tellers. Some that lie, and are very rude. But for all of them I treat them like gold. Look them in the eye. Tell them you appreciate it. Thank them, Smile nicely. and just be sweet. It goes along way.
Just a few weeks ago it was my attitude and behavior that scored me about $200 in silver for a just $70
Just because I was nice. It also scores me free reject coins as well.

Of course there have been times I have played with there heads when they know of the silver.
One time a teller asked me if i ever found old silver in the halves, (I told them I use them for poker)
I said "oh yeah, sometimes"
Oh, What do you do with them?
"oh I just toss em out, they are old so they are not good anymore, I just throw them away"
The look on her face was AWESOME!

Best Be Nice To Them Tellers .....

Lets face it, without the tellers you do not have a hobby!

We need to be nice and treat them with respect, just like you expect them to treat you when you deal with them. They are our friends and we need to treat them as such.

We are asking a lot from them that is out of their normal course of business. The bank is in business to make money and we are not making them money, and in some cases we are costing them money.

Some will say that they are there to help us no matter what we want, and that is true to some extent, but they can make it awfully hard on you, if not impossible, if they so decide. Another ramification of our actions would be to spoil it for all the others in your area with that bank or chain.

So what have we learned from this,

"Tellers are not dumb, but they almost have to be ignorant to work in such bad conditions and for such little pay, and to top it off they would have to be stupid to take foreign coins or something of that nature and jeopardize their low paying jobs".

I'm amazed that banks pay tellers so little. It's like asking someone working in a donut shop to eat fruit for breakfast.
