I dug up my first mercury dime on 7/12/86. It was a 1937-S! It was quite a thrill digging up that coin! Two weeks ago I dug up my 400th merc dime! Last weekend I dug up # 401 & # 402! It never gets old digging up these lovely ladies!

Here are some observations on the mercury dimes I've found with metal detectors over the years.

The 1943-S has been my most common, the total I've found is 45.

About 60% of the mercs dug have been dated between 1940 to 1945

About 20% have been dated from 1930 to 1939.

About 12% have been dated between 1920 to 1929.

Around 8% are dated between 1916 and 1919.

It never gets old digging up a merc! Hopefully that 1916-D will show up someday!

That is an amazing feat. :notworthy: Whats even more amazing is that not one of them was a 16 D. :dontknow: Congrats on 400. :icon_thumright:

Wow, nice job.

Congrats on making it into the 400s with those silver dimes. I am sure that that 1916 D is out there waiting for you. :icon_thumright:
Good hunting,

That is awesome! Keep digging!

Success breeds success! Nice. TTC

Impressive! How many silver rosies compared to mercs? Seems like I get 1 rosie to 3 mercs, not that the mercs are any deeper...

awesome! how about a photo of all 400 in a pile!?

Now that is a lot of Merc's Cong on hitting the 400 mark.......Matt

No wonder I dont find very many........You found em all!

That is an amazing feat! I am curious how many of them, or the percentage of "S" mint marks in the batch?

I notice an unusually large percentage of the Merc's I dig hear in the Philly area are from the Denver mint. Not so with most other modern coinage.

So far I've dug up 531 silver rosie dimes. Last April I dug up my 500th rosie. When I add up all my seated, barber, mercury, and rosie silver dimes I stand at about 970 silver dimes! I should hit the 1000th silver dime some time next year!

As far as mercs to rosies go, out here in the west coast we dig about 10 rosies for every 8 mercs.

This is how it breaks down:

Denver mint mark totals: 55
Philadelphia mint mark totals: 114
San Francisco mint marks totals: 235

I guess living in Northern California gives you high percentage of those S.F. mint marks....
