Horse breastplate is a pretty good guess I think. I couldn't find anything similar in a short search, and since I know how good you are at identifying "what's its," if you can't find it, there aren't many here would can :)

Darn shame there doesn't look to be any markings on it - that would at least give you a direction to research.

No matter what though, it's a really nice find in excellent condition.
 

It's a US clad quarter. Sorry, had to say it.

Could be a buckle, maybe had a ribbon to pin it on as some type of award, medallion?

That's really nice Gypsy.....looks like to me it could be a neckercheif buckle but I don't know from what period :icon_scratch:
