Looks like it used a cardboard insert top. I think those were most popular from the 30's to the early 60's. Thats my guess.

I am from the western part of PA originally. There were many dairy's in operation around there that have now dissapeared with the big companies that have taken over. That bottle looks like the ones we used to get from a dairy in Jefferson county. Made a couple of calls to relatives and no one remembers that name. They did remember MacAfee's dairy. That was in operation when we moved to the DC area in 1966. Close but no naners.

I agree most likely used in the 1940s-1950s. Slight possibility into the 1960s, By than most small dairies such as your bottle went out of business.

The newest things in the dump are 1930s we have just scratched the surface I cant wait to go deeper. I thought if the dairy was only in operation for a few years it might be a rare or scarce bottle. I just cant find even one hit on any search for info on the dairy. It is bugging me because I will likely find more and I always find the history on the things I dig it's a big part of the fun for me... the search continues. Thanks for the input :-\

Here's your answer I received today from the source noted.

Dear Don,
This is a milk bottle from Ferre's dairy. The owner was know as Mac Ferree. Ferrees Dairy supposedly was the first dairy business in Jeannette. It was there before the town of Jeannette established in 1888.
1925 first and only pasteurized plant in Jeannette. 1928 Mac Ferree erected a modern one story milk station. It also had a small store. Mac Ferree merged with Arlington Dairy, then later with Bennett Dairy. If there are any other questions, please feel free to e-mail back.
Sincerely,
Jeannette Public Library Staff

My researcher would like to know the city where the dump is located in which you found this bottle. And did you find it recently or years ago.
Thanks, Don

It was farm country in Greensburg PA a stones throw from Jeannette, Just found it in the top layers of a dump we just started into two weeks ago. there was tons of broken ones and then out popped a pristine one! so far we only raked off the surface can't wait to see what else is in there! Let me know what he/she says about the rarity or whatever else about it. thanks, Rob
