Is the hole in the bottom? Is it hollow? It seems like it could be a decorative knob or salt shaker, but that doesn't explain the metal band.

That is a weird (but interesting and beautiful) find....

I thought telephone pole insulator but the hole in the side of it is weird and I have never seen an insulator like that. I wonder if it isn't something from lighting instead like part of a sconce or chandelier.

I've seen these identified as lighters(?) on many occasions, but have no idea if this is accurate or how on earth they may have worked. They always have that marbleized glass of an array of different colors. Maybe someone will have a definitive answer. Never seen one with the metal hardware still attached.

I agree with Don etc. it's some type of insulator. If not from an old telegraph/telephone pole possibly from a fancy lightning rod set up. Most of the insulators I find in my area are pale green like the old Coke bottles, but we are in the right ballpark here.

I believe Treasurekidd has a good ID - nice glass!

bbb6.JPGbbb7.JPGTreasurekidd, That's what I was told 20 years ago, an old timer told me it went to a Model T Ford but I never could find info on it, you are the first to lead me to a page about them, a very big thank you, I also dug a lens that looked like it went to a rear lite to a car, with this, it was red and a half inch thick, if I can find it I will post a pic, it's funny, over the years there is more and more info on the net about stuff
