Hi all.
Dug this today in a yard on a high bluff over the Cumberland River (near Nashville) on a site where I've dug lots of flat buttons, old spoons, horse shoes, a 1/8 reale and a 1/2 Persian coin ca.1810. This really has me mystified tho. Never seen anything like it. Thought it was just part of an old earring, but now I'm not so sure. The word looks like "TALLIO" or "FALLIO"...
any ideas? One of the pics has a penny for size. Thanks. Dirt Girl Unleashed

It's a cufflink, with a fox hunting motif. I'd guess late 1700's - early 1800's.... Someone will be able to say for sure... Pretty cool find!

Matching set of Tallio cufflinks. Probably pre-1800. Someone else should come along to pin down a definite date on them. Very nice find!

Well, that is some nice info to wake up to. Thank you so much. I'd posted this questions on Facebook too and one friend suggested "TALLIO" may be a version of "Tally-ho!" referring to fox hunting. My favorite find of all time came from this site (see below) but this may now take honors.

Great work y'all on the ID.

I did find some more information. According to the research team at Virginia Commonwealth University, these sleeve links are from 1766 to 1772. The one they found was silver plated copper.

And, yes, TALLIO is our "Tally-ho."
Neat find :)
