I call em lawn mower penneys. The cailfornia cutter rotary type mowers shear em right in half. Or I tell the kids its due to the economy and I am forced to cut their wages. :tongue3: They usually don't appreciate my humor. lol.

Lucky for you that you actually have just over half the coin, you can bring it to a bank and have it exchanged for a full penny. :laughing9: I just hope that damaged coins work the same way as bills do. ;D

LOl yeah got to have a little humor! ;D I never thought about the lawn mower theory. :icon_scratch: Great suggestion...

Well.....

Using the latest metal prices and the specifications above, these are the numbers required to calculate melt value:

$2.7983 = copper price / pound on Aug 14, 2009.
.95 = copper %
$0.8099 = zinc price / pound on Aug 14, 2009.
.05 = zinc %
3.11 = total weight in grams
.00220462262 = pound/gram conversion factor (see note directly below)

The NYMEX uses pounds to price these metals, that means we need to multiply the metal price by .00220462262 to make the conversion to grams.

1. Calculate 95% copper value :

(2.7983 × .00220462262 × 3.11 × .95) = $0.0182265

2. Calculate 5% zinc value :

(0.8099 × .00220462262 × 3.11 × .05) = $0.0002775

3. Add the two together :

$0.0182265 + $0.0002775 = $0.0185040

$0.0185040 is the melt value for the 1909-1982 copper cent on August 14, 2009.

I'll have to check into the California cutte rotary type mover :thumbsup:

Looks like about 51% of the coin, so no, it doesn't count. Now go find the other 49%!
