...a "Tootsie Toy" car lot that is.
Headed out today for the first time in almost two years. Modern Miner came out as well insisting I may need help recovering any silver in the area (he did pretty dang good today).
Started on just a small piece of a friends 20 acres of land. Cold and wet it was, but spirits were high as always. This property has been in the family for over 200 years and through research, we found the original foundation stones that belonged to the second house built on the land. Sadly, the new owners (not related) spent a lot of time with fill dirt to level out what is now, pasture for cattle. We spent quite a while swingin' through a ton of trash and not coming up with much of anything besides an old axehead (not even a dang square nail!).
After a couple of hours in a cold wet mist, we decided to take a drive down one of the older roads where we spotted a few potential candidates for some door knockin'. Thankfully, MM didn't look half as scary as I did today (he's usually much worse - LOL) and ended up securing permission at the very first house we stopped at (which, by the way, was the "tastiest" opportunity on the street). The original part of the house was built in the early 1850s - the newest being built in 1876. The homeowners are some of the nicest folks I've come across since I have been detecting, virtually giving us free reign of their property.
Without dragging this out into a novel, I picked up some clad, some old iron bits and some "vintage" pulltabs - BUT, the best things I dug today were not one, but four "Toostie Toy" cars. All were at the most, two feet from each other (in fact, MM pulled a Tootsie Motorcycle from the same area). I've never been fortunate to pull one in my years of detecting so I was very happy when I dug the first one. After that, a few inches away, the second, then the third, then the fourth which sadly, was in two pieces when unearthed. I ( like many detectorists) have always dreamed of digging up a "cache". Today I did (sorta). And even though it wasn't gold or silver, I'm still smilin' about it. I'll be heading back to that property tomorrow - maybe I'll score another or two...
...or three...
Happy Hunting and thanks for reading. Pics attached after I cleaned them up a bit.
