Dman was stuck in his store today allegedly working and guarding his 1861 half dime so I went on a scouting trip. The prospective site didn't pan out so I drove to the Confederate Camp that we hunted last weekend. Rain was on the way so I only hunted for one and one half hours. Again, relics were deep. The pin fire pistol bullet in the cartridge was used by Confederate and Union Officers during the war The pin fire pistols were manufactured mostly in France but some are Belgum made. I think this is my fourth pin fire bullet to dig and I was with Dman when he dug one at a U.S. site. He almost trashed it thinking it was modern day (NO glasses again!!!). Our friend Rafael Eldridge from Shiloh Relics told me today that the cartridges are brass or copper cased. Oddly, this is the first pin fire that I have dug at a CS site. The pistols were private purchase items and a favorite of Confederate Officers as a back up gun. I dug the other relics this morning also. The equipment buckle is of the type found on cartridge boxes. Happy Hunting from Tennessee.
