Driftwood with 2 silver bolts about 10''

I recently found a piece of driftwood? with 2 silver (in color) bolts, 2 other bolts missing from the holes drilled. This was found in Kill Devil Hills, NC on 8/24/07. The piece of wood is about 18'' in length. The bolts have already started to take on rust. I was told I should keep this in salt water until I decide what to do with it?
My thoughts are this is from a sunkend ship...?

I would appreciate any assisted info on what steps I should do next. Thanks for your time.

Would love to see some pics. :)

You might have better luck posting i the cleaning and preservation forumor perhaps shipwrecks. Good luck and let us know what you find out about it.

If they are silver and starting to rust i would say they are newer plated bolts and the plating is coming off....

If they are rusting, then they aren't silver.

Why would driftwood be part of a ship? Are you sure it's not a plank? If so, I would say it is part of the Doors on a shrimp trawl net.

Bolts or spikes? I don't notice any threads?

I would guess it's part of a pier or dock.

Almost looks like the old square nails, but they were iron and surely would have rotted by now.
I'd say something a little more modern, probably plated to make something look older.

Just a wild guess.
