Here is a photo of an 8 inch dredge in the San Gabriel Canyon, in the mid 1980's. Just thought you would like seeing what it looked like in the good ol' days before all the tight regulations... LOL The dredge was built in L.A., Bob Grant was part owner of the shop at the time.

Wow what a monster! I saw an even larger unit at the confluence of the North Fork of the American River and the Middle Fork of the American River out back of Auburn CA a long time ago, they had an armed guard walking the deck and I would have loved to have been allowed to look at what they were getting!

Thanks for sharing this great old picture.........63bkpkr

I see you are in N. CA, I went to Lincoln Elementary outside of Marysville and for a time at Corning and Redding..
Today I was working on my next book and was writing about "Hardrock" Hendricks and the plaser claims he tried to give me, just before he passed away, they were on the Feather River, near Strawberry...
As a child I'd sit around the campfire and listen to the oldtimers talking about getting "color" at this bar or that bank, averaging an ounce a day or so. Remember gold was only $35 an oz in those days...
