Mother natures plans just about finished. Staging area active in all oceanic environments and atmospheric sectors. Storms pre-positioned to remove said sand, and subsequently return it to the ocean, upon projects completion.

*Your tax dollars at work*

~sigh~

Well said GIB. Was hoping to get over there to visit a friend and get a
little time on the beach.I see they plan to wreck my plans.Of coarse
if they dreadge in the right spots off the beach I'll be happy, but I don,t
think the lease holders would like that. Thanks for the heads-up BB

Surveyors nearly done, Ambersands beach access closed and being used as staging area for dredge crews. They are about to start pumping a lot of sand onto the beach in the southern end of Sebastion SP.

I checked this out today, the dredge pipe is set up and ready to go. They have their "top of berm" survey stakes all laid out too.

We found nothing but pieces of corroded iron/steel starting from 500 ft north of the cabin to just south of the cabin. And the common shredded beer cans.

I had heard that the beach restoration was planned for February. Is it too late to get down there in next two weeks? Will they start dredging this week? Are they dredging all the beaches in the area (Wabasso Beach)?

Sucking the sand out of the evil grip of lease holders, and onto the beach for us commoners has provided a few coins in the past.

If you time this just right, and are the first to scan the sand... (it's happened before)

Guyinback;
I was thinking along the same lines. I've only been detecting since March but I've been a beachcomber for many years. I always seem to find a nice new selection of shells when they dredge to replenish the sand. Good luck down there. I'm sure that by the time I get to that area everything will be gone! lol

Sucking the sand out of the evil grip of lease holders, and onto the beach for us commoners has provided a few coins in the past.

The great numbers of coins that are buried under the new beach fill does not even begin to compare to the very few coins that may get sucked up by the dredge offshore.

At least they aren't trucking in dirt from a land site, like they have in the past.

As for the "evil" leaseholders, have you ever tried contacting Taffi Fisher for a subcontract? She is a very nice lady and for $1200.00 you can search offshore and find treasure like the "big boys."

Fishers are nice people! Many of us got inspired by Mel's adventures.

Someone post photos of the erosion down at Sebastian SP and surrounding beaches please!

I have a littile inside info on this...and you shouldn't be dicouraged. :D The sand is being sucked from 2 miles offshore right in front of Sandy Point. They are cutting an 8 ft. deep 8 ft. wide swath every 15 feet with ships, and then carrying the sand up to the dredge near Seb. Inlet starting Monday or Tuesday next week.

I happen to have a little agreement with the dredge company to walk along behind the dozers (who are cutting a 6 ft. deep trench along the beach) with a MD while they cut the trench and build their berms to help keep the sand in place. After the trench is cut, they will pump the sand from the borrow area at Sandy Point onto the beach as re-nourishment. That's all I have to say, but you might want to follow me down the beach when they are done.

You never know. Here's a close-up of the dredge I shot while onboard their crew boat.

Well, they started last night. I hunted for 5 hours, and even though they cut a 4 foot deep, 8-10 foot wide path in the sand, I found nothing....except the old renourished crap. Today they are pumping the new stuff in from Sandy Point...it's a long shot, but I'll hunt it too just in case.

Ahoy mate!

Post pics for us olde sailors! ;D

Booty is there...keep on diggin!

Too much sand everywhere else! We need more wind and bigger shovels...

Arrrr...

I spent 3 hrs working from cabin north in what looked like new sand near the bank. Found a crushed Coke can 14" deep and a nice piece of rusty wire at 8". That's it. Noseeums eating my legs, the stink of dead fish and the sore throat and coughing from red tide finally did me in. I could see no activity on shore from the dredge crew either from Treasure sands beach or from the area I worked.

I hear you guys on the red tide thing. Just got back in from a night dive...because they dropped the bell off the dredge...a simple shackle and cable install...man was the water clear though. I coughed the whole way in, and there are dead fish washing into the marina as well.

The dredge crew should be back in full swing tomorrow now that they have all thier parts. :D I saw the area they are dredging from, and it's 18-20 feet deep directly off Sandy Point. Could be intersting....let me know if anyone finds some ballast stone. I doubt they will suck up much treasure, but the chances of them uncovering a ballast pile are fair.
