I pulled a large copper from the ground at a measly 3-4". Figured it was a stray quarter so man was I surprised to find this gal. Talked with the copper shark George (Vino) and he thinks it's a 1803.

I'm still not sure but I wanna hear guess from every viewer! Lol We will know in a few days. She's chilling out in some distiller water.

Also found me a 6-pointer with mi nose

Looks like 1803 to me.

Steve

I tried downloading the photo and changing the color saturation, brightness etc to try and figure this one out with no luck. Try wetting the area around the date lightly and see if you can make something out. Post the photo and I'll try again to figure out the date.

Use 400 grit lol, it only takes a little off

Always a thrill finding the early coppers - nice hunt

Definitely looks like a Draped Bust, but I can't see a date. Congrats.

Nice ! Looks like 03.

Yeehaa! Keep guessing and I'll post a "special" (for Don) picture tonight!

Sure likes like 03. Lil trick when the coin is dry is to rub your nose with your finger then just give the date area a gentle rub. The skins oil will often accentuate the details enough to make them out. Nice to see you hit an early one bud. Think you can teach George how to find old coins? :laughing7:

Lets see, a day after posting up 2 Silvers and wishing for "something old like maybe an LC" you go out the next day and find an 1803 Draped Bust????? Ok I really really really hope I find a GOLD COIN!! I will report back tomorrow. lol lol Great find! Big Congrats, I'm happy for you!!

PS; What are you hoping to find next?

ME TOO!!!!! LOL... I'm goin with 3 on the date. CONGRATZ.. GL&HH...

It's a 3. As in 1803! A great year and something to keep my 1802 company. It's cleaning up ok, at best. It had a rough life in what started as a farm field, then a roadside, then someone's yard. I stopped the cleaning and locked her up with oil. It'll sit through the night but this is about as good as it's going to get.

Happy hunting and thanks for the fun guessing!

Absolutely Chris. I stopped when I didn't see the nice smooth green you want under the dirt and instead saw the notorious rough green. I double checked with Vino and he confirmed. Oh well, I can still make out the '03 and some reverse details but in all I'm happy it wasn't much worse.

Congrats on the early LC! Very nice find. GL&HH.
