My sister has a place on a private lake in OH that has been drained for repairs on the spillway.

There are two beaches with platforms out in the water, at least where the water use to be. The main beach is fenced in and closed but when my Dad and I got there the gate was open and the maintenance man let us hunt. The water level is currently 8 feet below normal level.

The second beach at the lake is smaller beach and is not fenced in.

The area under the platform at this beach had a little water left under it and below that ankle deep sediment and then soft clay. It was the hardest digging I've ever done. When I located a target and stopped to use the scoop I would sink into the clay up over my ankles. It was difficult to get the scoop out of the clay and you had to take it out of the water to dump the clay from the scoop. By 11:00 it was almost 90 degees both days that I hunted.

I also searched several of the docks which are now all on dry land.

Found 5 rings, 2 watches, a wallet with a drivers license that was issued in 1993 and expired in 1998 (it had a key in the pocket). As you can see I also found a truck load of clad.

Great finds.
Way to keep your eyes open for a great hunting
opportunity. Ones like that don't come along
everyday.

Nice finds Shrek! You didn't say whether any of those rings were gold or silver. Five rings = great day! Any dollars in the wallet? Should be easy to find the owner of the wallet. Lucky you didn't sink up to your head. LOL I know it was tough digging. Way to go after em.

Nice finds! I have a few of those lakes, the first few hunts/years after they drained them were great but they have dwindled down to average. Looks like you had some fun. HH, Mike

That's some great finds under that dock. Haboo asked if you'd tried contacting the owner and if you do, ask him why he swam out to the dock with his wallet?

Nice digs. Great pics. I wish I could detect a drained lake. Hope you get to go back again.

Awesome finds !!!!!!!!!! that's the kind of place I want to detect, there's a town about 30 miles from here where there's a lake they drain about every 4 or 5 years, I've never been able to hit it but next time I'm going to be notified. Great finds !!!!!!! ;D
