If it's the same weight of said coin, then it's a coin weight. Nice and interesting find anyway.:thumbsup:

Well it is only slightly light for the correct weight...I suppose that "could" be due to some corrosion ? About a half gram light of an 8 escudo.

A neat early coin weight is still on my want to find list. So looks good to me.

Yes, ground found coin weights are nearly always under weight. Its been IDed correctly:

It was produced in about 1750 at a weight of 416 grains or 26.956 grams (so not much lost)

On the reverse (now blank) it had:
Dw. Gr
17:8


It was for the Spanish Doubloon or 4 Pistols as it was known. Made in the UK for the Colonies.
